Gift holder, Bookmark and a little Tip

Hello there ...
I don't think it's ever going to stop raining here ... The garden looks so sad...

I'm a lover of real books, the kind you can hold...not the kindle type...and I have a lot of friends who are like me...
Today I have a little card to share that is just big enough to hold a gift card for a bookstore together with a detachable bookmark, all made from scraps

I started with a piece of  scrap CS that I had sponged with inks and splattered with water and cut out the sentiment and a little banner. The flowers and leaves were stamped and coloured with copics then smooshed in versamark and heat embossed with clear E/P

I used another scrap of the sponged CS for the back part of the bookmark and a scrap of vellum to hold it to the card and to show how it can be used in your book

Here's a TIP for you ... I don't think I've shared this before? Anyway, it's a way of getting more out of your square or rectangle type dies and adding edging to your scrap pieces as I did with the vellum on my card and the longer part of the bookmark

Here you can see the piece of vellum and the die I used (mine is from Lil'inkers rectangles) The die was the length I wanted but not the width but it's so easy to adapt it

First tape your die to one side of the paper, card or vellum you want to cut

and run it through your die cutting machine, you will end up with one shaped side

Lay your die back on aligning to the other side at the distance you want

... run it back through your machine and Voila!

A nicely edged custom sized rectangle - I use this trick a lot particularly on scrap pieces

By the way, the challenge at City Crafter is flags and banners ... check it out

I'm off to see my friend at the nursing home now, bless her she is really struggling and it breaks my heart

Enjoy your day and if you have any sun to share I'd be grateful!

Till soon

City Crafter 318

Good morning!

Marina is hosting for us at City Crafter this week with a great challenge

Hang Out The Flags

What a lovely photo for our inspiration ... I only wish this is how we could spend summer ... Unfortunately all we have had for weeks is rain and more rain ...

The card I made was a Father's Day card for my DH ... He never gets any from his own children so this was to say how much Mikey and I appreciate him

When Stella was visiting, we bought a nautical paper pad and split it between us... I used the cover of the pad which is made up of small prints of the enclosed papers to cut a banner and to paper piece my yachts

I did a little sponging and some stamping on the card base before adhering the top card with a cut out circle

Our GD this week is  Kelly Bertram , winner of week 309... Kelly is a very talented card maker ... hop on over to her blog and take a look around... You won't be disappointed

We're looking forward to seeing what you create this week for our challenge, maybe summer flags or bunting, 4th July flags... It's up to you ...Have fun!

Enjoy your day

Three

Ok..... So I messed up today with my post for

Which just happens to be celebrating 3 successful years today!

I got my dates wrong and prepared next week's post instead, sigh ...
So I rather hastily put a short post together to celebrate our 3rd birthday and wouldn't you know it ... My computer didn't want to play along... Argh!!
The prompt of course is
THREE

It's surprising what I can find amongst my photos at short notice ... Flowers from my garden

A statue in Ireland

 Three players in La Coruna

And my three cat ornaments

Hop on over to the blog to see what the rest of the team is sharing this week and apologies for being late ... at least next week's post is ready to go Lol!

Have a beautiful day

A bit of everything....

Hello!
Oh my goodness where did this week go? I don't seem to have stopped, nursing home visits, club projects, housework, commenting and sorting out a lunch venue for when the lovely Darnell flies over to visit next month...
All that and the constant debates as to whether we should stay or leave the EU ... Well, at least the choice has been made ... I'm not going to get political don't worry...

I do have a card to share which was one I made for this week's challenge at City Crafter ... I rejected it and did another one, because much as I like this and IRL it's so pretty ... it just doesn't translate in photos...

You may remember that I lost that 'HUGS' die some time ago ... Well, it turned up, stuck to a receipt that was in my drawer... I have no idea how it got there but at least it turned up

I've lost a stamp now... a small one and I doubt that will turn up, but I'm not surprised... If you'd seen my room on Wednesday preparing for the club, heck I couldn't even find the cat!

I have to take hubby for his hospital check up shortly, then on to the nursing home for a few hours, do some grocery shopping then it will be time to cook dinner... Another day gone and no play time ...sigh
On the plus side I noticed that I got an Honourable Mention at The Male Room for a card I entered a few weeks ago... Thank you ladies!

Enjoy your day my friends and thanks so much for your visit

Till soon

City Crafter 317

Hi there!
How's your week so far?
I've have a wonderful long weekend in Lincoln with my Aunt and I hope to catch up with you all soon.

Today my lovely friend Stella is hosting the challenge at

The challenge is to create a project using lots of white and use an element or elements from this photo

For example: gingham or striped patterns, add a colour such as blue, grey, pink or yellow

I wasn't too happy with my first attempt so did a second card and here it is

I went with the stripes on those tea towels and believe it or not the colour of the paper IRL is blue/grey

The pinwheel is from a wedding range at our local Home Bargain store and I added a stick and some curly ribbon (the kind you use for wrapping gifts)

Our Guest Designer this week is Sid Harpies Crafty Corner Please go visit the City Crafter Blog to see what Sid and the team have to inspire you this week... I hope you will join in our challenge

Have a beautiful day...

Old

Good morning!

It's time for a new prompt at

Kirsty has picked the word this week and the word is
 Old

Well, there are a lot of Old things around here including me! But that's a photo I won't be sharing Lol!

Here we go...

Actually I have my brother to thank for this shot ... It's a very old Inn on the Isle of Jersey ... I visited there many years ago and my photo was too dog-eared to scan but my brother took this a couple of years ago
And just in case you are wondering how old this is, take a look at the 'house rules'

Funny huh? But it tells the story of how things were at that time

What about this old railway station situated on the other side of the river from me

This opened around 1866 ... It's no longer a working station though, but part of the country park walkway...

How about on old mill...

I think it's beautiful...Here's a close up of the wheel... you can see by the wood how old this is

And lastly a rusted Old turret on Fort Perch Rock ... Again on the other side of the river from me. A place we often frequented when we were children... We would take the famous Ferry 'cross the Mersey to walk on the sands, visit the Fort, swim in New Brighton open air baths and visit the funfair

Old buildings always fascinate me... I wonder about the people who visited, worked or lived in them. What were they like? What were their stories? If only buildings could talk

Hop on over to the blog to see what my friend's are sharing this week...

I'm still away from home and hoping to catch up with you all soon

Be safe and have a beautiful day

Friends

Hello...

The end of another week draws near and tomorrow I am taking a short break to go visit my sweet Aunt... I will be away until Tuesday. I haven't seen my Aunt for ages and much as I hate to leave my sick friend, I need to re-charge my batteries so to speak and spend some relaxing time with the aunt I love so much...

My friend was moved into a nursing home this week and in between visits, liaising with doctors and social workers as well as the normal daily things, I did managed to squeeze in some time for crafting and catching up on DT work... I have a card to share which I made for a friends' birthday - There are so many this month!

Some simple ink blending - It's fast becoming one of my favourite things to do - along with a stamped and embossed image

Now if only I could remember to send them out on time it would be good! Lol!

Oh, did I tell you that this card was a Top 5 over at Try It On Tuesday? How lucky am I!
Thank you ladies!

We've had plenty of rain over here and the forecast doesn't look promising, heavy thundery showers again...

I do hope it's better where you are - have a wonderful day and thanks so much for your visit

City Crafter 316

Hello and good morning to you!

I'm hosting the challenge this week at City Crafter Challenge

We've had some lovely weather here in the UK but these past few days all we have seen is rain and dull skies ... I don't want summer to end and I'd love to just take off to the beach..
So that's my challenge ... "Lets Go to The Beach"

Create a project with either a beach theme or something from the beach i.e. Shells, sand sea, boats fish etc.

So you knew I'd be using these colours again right? Lol! I just love them together, Momento Canteloupe, and TH distress inks Mermaid Lagoon and Evergreen Bough

The sentiment stamp is a gift from my lovely friend Stella and the shells sequins and pearls are from my stash...

Our Guest Designer this week is Nicole Parmentier I just love her work and I'm sure you will too ... Click the link and go check out her wonderful creations

Our team have more inspiration for you on the City Crafter Blog ... take a look and be inspired to join us this week...

Texture

Good morning...

It's time for a new word prompt at

Ariadne has chosen the word "Texture" for us this week, so here is what I'm sharing

This craggy rock wall fascinated me... The rough texture that somehow makes you shudder to think of it hitting bare skin, yet beautiful and perfect in it's design

In contrast the soft silky texture of petals on a flower....

This shot has a few different textures

Smooth rocks and the soft feathery down of the gull are a perfect contrast to the spiky texture of the cactus...

Nature gives us so many beautiful and diverse textures don't you think?

What can you come up with this week? We'd love you to share with us at

Our Beautiful World

Till soon

Enjoy

Hello there ...
Phew! Another week just flew by and what a busy week!
As you know DH and I took a train to London to finally meet my dear friend Kirsty... I joined the City Crafter team 6 years ago and through the years we have become firm friends but never did I think we would have the opportunity to meet in person...
I arranged for us to meet in a hotel in Bloomsbury London for afternoon tea and as soon as we entered I saw Kirsty and her daughters waiting there... We just hugged and hugged! Like long lost friends...
Sorry, but my DH is the worst photographer ever so the photos I have are not that good but here we go

Even a London bus in the background Lol!
And here's Kirsty with her gorgeous girls

The time went so fast , we laughed a lot and hugged a lot as well as exchanging gifts. Kirsty is so cute and adorable and felt huge next to her (I was huge next to her!) Lol! The afternoon tea was pretty good too ... Oh my ... another few pounds went on! It was a day to remember and I also got to go and visit the hotel my grandmother owned when I was a child ... So many happy days were spent there...
I have a card to share that I made some weeks ago - I originally did it for a CCCB project but wasn't keen on it so did another one

It was for the black, white and gold challenge but I thought it was too busy

I'm still doing daily visits to the hospital to see my friend - She's expected to be moved to a nursing home in the next few weeks. As well as all this last night I did my craft class at Thursday Club and prepared 20 mobiles for them to make and a card each....Yep, a busy week...

I'm looking forward to the weekend and maybe some time to just create

Thanks so much for looking in on me and for all your well wishes for my friend, I won't pretend it's an easy time and there have been moments when I've just felt overwhelmed but your friendships and encouragement keeps me going...

Have a lovely day

City Crafter 315

Good morning!

Kirsty has chosen the challenge for this week at City Crafter

The theme is City Scene and Kirsty is asking that we include a city scene or a symbol of a city...

Kirsty is off travelling and plans to visit quite a lot of cities including London where I will be meeting up with her today!
My card includes some ink blending and the inserted die technique

That lovely quote came from a book of quotes done on vellum that I had in my stash ... I really need to use up the things I've been hoarding Lol!

Our Guest Designer this week is Ellen ... Click the link to go visit her lovely blog

As always the team have some more creations to inspire your this week up on the blog ... Go take a look and  link up your creations for a chance to Guest Design with us.

Wishing you a beautiful day

Reflection or Reflection?

Hello ... How are you?

Today's prompt at Our Beautiful World is Reflection

Do go visit the Blog to see what my friends are sharing

Wen picked the prompt this week and it seems ironic ...Things have happened that have caused me to do some reflecting of my own but first up, here are my photos

I love this shot, it makes me feel calm, even though the day I took it, it is was not so calm ... It is the ideal place I would sit and just reflect on things in life

The simple sweet and beautiful things....

The warm and happy times

...The sun closing down a perfect day, reflecting a trail of gold

And the unexpected things that mystify and amaze, and sometimes throw you off balance...

I've not been blogging much except for DT work ... It's a time issue
A friend of mine is terminally ill and for reasons I won't go into her daughter has opted out of any involvement...
I've been going in to see her daily in the hospice and as well as getting her out into the garden for short spells, it has been left to me to help her make big decisions...
Don't get me wrong, I am only too happy that I can be there for her and do whatever I can to ease her mind and let her know she is not alone and she is loved...We are old friends, she trusts me, that means a lot and it's a big thing. But I need to get things right and it isn't always simple

So yes, I've been reflecting a lot on things, including our many years of friendship... and how blessed we are to know each other

Till soon my friends, take care

~ Ros ~
